About me

Richard "Jake" Fantus, MD

I am a board-certified urologist at The University of Kansas Health System with a clinical focus on men's health, sexual medicine, infertility, testosterone deficiency, Peyronie's disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and reconstructive options for restoring function.

Clinical Work

My public KU profile describes a holistic approach to men's health: pairing medical and surgical therapies with lifestyle modification and coordination with primary care. Areas of special interest include vasectomy, vasectomy reversal, penile prosthetic surgery, and minimally invasive, sexual-function-preserving BPH procedures.

Academic Path

I grew up in the Chicagoland area, studied at Washington University in St. Louis, earned my MD from Baylor College of Medicine, completed urology residency at the University of Chicago, and completed fellowship training in andrology, infertility, and sexual medicine at Northwestern University.

Research And Writing

My work includes more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters in urology, and service as a peer reviewer for journals including The Journal of Urology, The Journal of Sexual Medicine, Fertility and Sterility, and Urology.

How I Think About Health

In KU Health System's men's health coverage, I emphasized that urologic goals often connect to sleep, diet, activity, mood, cardiometabolic health, and long-term function. The short version: quick fixes rarely replace durable habits.
